After Ron Paul’s Win in Iowa…
Ron Paul is going to win Iowa.
That is becoming more evident every day. What’s not quite so evident is that, when all is said and done, it may not even be that close.
Consider that the most recent Insider Advantage poll (from 12/19) has Paul at 24 percent – a full 6 points higher than former Massachusetts Gov. Mittens Romney. These two are followed by Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who’s climbed up from the hinterlands to presently be in 3rd place with 16 percent. In fourth is Fannie Mae Lobbyist Newt Gingrich, whose smoke and mirrors machine has run out of gas to the point he’s tumbled to 3 points behind Perry.
Of course, the number that most tells me Ron Paul is going to win is his Intrade number. Follow the money, folks: As of this writing, Ron Paul leads Intrade by gaining 68.4% of all money invested. What this means is that 68.4 percent of all money being bet on the Iowa Caucuses in the GOP race is being bet on Ron Paul. And I expect that number to continue to rise.
Bluntly put, however, what really tells me that Crunkle (Crazy Uncle) Ron Paul is going to take Iowa by storm is the simple fact that panic appears to be settling in on the ruling GOP class.
Once again, all of the regular “Let’s Make Paul Seem Like a Nut” talk is swirling around like the flu: He’s a racist. No, he’s a kook! Wait a minute, Ron Paul is a conspiracy theorist lunatic who’s a “bend over backwards to appease America’s enemies” kinda guy.
Hell, it’s gotten so bad, and the GOP establishment is getting so nervous, there are even factions who are now ridiculing Iowa’s caucuses for the simple fact they’re going to vote for Paul, just as they voted for Huckabee in 2008. Consider what Fox News’ Chris Wallace had to say about Iowa and the impending Ron Paul victory…
Wallace said “(a Ron Paul win) will discredit the Iowa caucuses because … most of the Republican establishment thinks he’s not going to end up as the nominee, so therefore Iowa won’t count.”
(Hey, I’m a Ron Paul Supporter! I don’t count!)
So, what’ll the GOP bigwigs do once Ron Paul kicks ass in Iowa?
Well, one tack they can try is to ignore him. Here’s what Iowa Governor Terry Branstad – who also seems to realize that Crunkle Paul is going to win his home state – had to say…
“People are going to look at who comes in second and who comes in third. If Romney comes in a strong second, it definitely helps him going into New Hampshire and the other states.” Uh, Hey Terry…what about who comes in first? Way to show confidence in your own state’s caucus…
However, I don’t think the establishment will be content to ignore Ron Paul. Hell, I think the top neo-cons will do everything within their power to destroy him. According to the Washington Examiner, last week already saw “Limbaugh, Hannity, and National Review…repeating the canard that Paul believes in 9/11 conspiracy theories when, in reality, he simply believes that the whole story, particularly those portions that demonstrate government incompetence, has yet to be told.”
And, get ready for it folks, that will only be the beginning.
Ron Paul is a big boy and has already proven he can both take and give a punch. That being said, no one likes being the recipient of a concerted effort to be destroyed. And this is why the GOP establishment had better tread lightly on Crunkle following his upcoming victory in Iowa. The last thing the GOP needs is Ron Paul flipping them off and running 3rd Party should he be trashed by the Party’s Overlords.
My advice to the Republican Heirarchy?
Deal with the fact that Ron Paul’s going to win Iowa. Then let things take their natural course. If you don’t – and Paul takes any concerted effort as I would – and that causes him to run as a third party candidate, well…I hope you get – and enjoy – front row tickets to Obama’s 2nd Inauguration.
You’d have earned them.
